Lucas doesn't know if he was really his mother's first son. She was a poor woman from a bad part of Tirall, who managed to scrape by more on luck than wits, and for as long as she raised him she always told him that he was her first child, it was a whirlwind affair that didn't really work out and his father had responsibilities that kept them apart.

Lucas didn't believe a word of it.

He was followed by a sister, Lucia, three years his junior. Their mother never revealed anything about Lucia's parentage, except that the two didn't have the same father. There were a couple of other pregnancy scares and one miscarriage during their youth. None of these, Lucas was sure, involved either of their fathers.

When he was nine and Lucia was six, their mother's health -- never the best to begin with -- began failing her. Lucas, worried that he'd lose his chance forever, began pressing her for more information on his father.

He got it. And then she died.

With nowhere else to go, he took Lucia and went after his father -- who, it seemed, was a member of the assassin's guild, known only as Eligos. Lucas had apparently gotten some of the luck that had kept his mother alive all those years, and was able to find the man -- who laughed and slammed the door in his face.

He was a little more receptive after Lucas stuck his foot in the door to keep it from closing and made a break for the fireplace (and the poker sitting next to it). Eligos never did get rid of the scars, but decided that the boy had spark, and that was worth something. He agreed to take care of Lucas, and Lucia just ended up there by default, because Lucas insisted.

From then on, the training began, because Eligos wasn't about to let that spark go to waste. For the next six years, he began teaching Lucas everything he knew about the fine art of killing from the shadows. Lucas entered the assassin guild on his father's recommendation when he was fifteen, and not long after, a botched job left him and Lucia alone in the world -- which rather frankly suited him just fine.

He kept working for four years, steadily rising through the ranks as he improved his skills. He reached Division 4 by the time he was nineteen, and was sure he had the talent to go further. He just needed a little more time to polish his skills.

Soon, however, he and Lucia found an odd pair of journals that had somehow appeared amongst their things, and not long after, Lucas woke up one morning to find that one of his eyes was gone -- simply up and vanished into thin air. He was more bothered by the inexplicability of the situation than by the loss itself; lack of depth perception was mildly annoying, but he had enough money saved to get a glass eye made, and he thought the mismatched colors looked rather nice on him, in a strange sort of way.

Not long after, Lucia, who had been acting a bit strangely since the journals appeared, gouged her own eye out, and Lucas was, to put it lightly, a bit more worried.

Lucas learned at an early age that the world doesn't give a damn about you or your problems, and in response, he's decided he's not going to give a damn about the world or its problems. He turns his focus inward, and chooses not to concern himself with anything unless he can think of a concrete reason why it's his business to care. This isn't to say he won't feign interest, ask questions, or get information about something, but acting on it is out of the question.

He's spent the years under his father's tutelage learning to cover his weak points not only physically, but mentally, and as a result, he is a fairly clear thinker who knows his limits, doesn't push his luck, and doesn't let the words of other people influence him into doing anything stupid.

He does, however, have one glaring weak point that he can do nothing about, and that is his sister. No matter what he thinks of the rest of the world, he'd do anything to keep her safe and his first priority in life is taking care of her.

Lucas has dark, somewhat blue-purple hair that has an annoying tendency to stick up at odd angles in the back. His natural eye color is blue, although his right eye has since been replaced by a false one made of glass, red -- he wasn't willing to pay extra to make sure it actually matched, and he's getting used to it, really.

He keeps himself as neat as he can manage, unless he's going into a situation where he thinks it would be to his advantage not to. He has good posture and carries himself with confidence, unless he thinks it would be useful to be underestimated, and therefore not to. Left to his own devices, he's an attractive guy who leaves an impression of not being one to screw around with, but he has no issues about pretending otherwise if that's what will serve him best at that particular moment.
